South Dakota and Wyoming

Bud, my husband, and I went to South Dakota and Wyoming for a vacation June 2001. We were gone for eleven days. This picture was taken at Mount Rushmore (Black Hills of South Dakota). Bud and I did a lot of mountain climbing. Bud is in great shape. My legs were sore the next day.
I don't remember where this was taken, but it was in the Black Hills.
Crazy Horse Memorial. "My lands are where my dead lie buried"--Chief Crazy Horse.
More information about Crazy Horse Memorial can be found on the Internet.

This was my first experience driving a car in the mountains. The Chrysler did quite well. The experience was exciting, beautiful and fun. Bud did not fuss at my driving!!!!

Cody, Wyoming:

Cody, Wyoming is my favorite town, next to Lawrence, Kansas. I

lived here with my parents when I was a baby.

This picture was taken at the Buffalo Bill Museum. This museum is considered one of
the best in the United States. The official site of the museum can be found at: http://www.bbhc.org/

Bud, where is your horse? This picture was taken inside
the Buffalo Bill Museum. The museum also houses the Whitney Gallery of Western Art, Plains Indian Museum, and Cody Firearms Museum. The Draper Museum of Natural History opens in 2002.

Yellowstone National Park
It was so cold at Yellowstone, I had to buy a sweatshirt. Bud had his coat zipped to the top and his hat pulled down. It was low 40's in the evening and 50's during the day. It was especially chilly near the water.

We met my cousin, Jim and his wife, at West Yellowstone. Our plans were to drive to Pocatello, Idaho to visit my other cousin, Bill, but I got sick. I stayed in bed at Jackson, Wyoming. Not much fun. Bud and I also planned to take a boat trip down the rapids. Next trip???? Bud found an outside coffee shop where he ordered his first expresso. You guess it! It was not his favorite.

The most beautiful spot in the world--Wind River Canyon. The mountains are on one side of the road and a stream on the other. My mother introduced the area to me twenty years ago. I felt her presence!
This is a great picture of Bud. Bud enjoyed seeing cattle, crops and ranches along the way. We both enjoyed the wildlife--herds of buffalo, elk, deer, and antelope. We did not see any bears.

We met an interesting fellow on our stop at Rock Springs, Wyoming. If you are a rock lover, you must give him a call. He is interested in finding someone to look for meteorites in Kansas.

We had a wonderful time. I am so thankful we decided to go. My wonderful husband, companion and friend passed away on October 31, 2001.

Poem
by Langston Hughes

I loved my friend.
He went away from me.
There's nothing more to say.
The poem ends
Soft as it began-
I loved my friend.
